Descriptions:
A Nebraska State Patrol trooper narrowly avoided being struck by a sliding car Thursday as icy conditions triggered a series of crashes on Interstate 80 just west of Lincoln.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), two troopers were assisting stranded motorists when an out-of-control vehicle drove into the scene, crashing into one of the vehicles already pulled over. Video released by NSP shows the troopers and travelers standing just feet away as the car skidded through the area.
Despite only light snowfall, troopers reported numerous slide-offs in a short span of time. NSP said at least three vehicles lost control within about 15 minutes.
Before the close call that was caught on NSP’s dashcam, the driver of the maroon vehicle lost control and spun to a stop.
No injuries were reported in any of the slide-offs. NSP said the driver who lost control was not cited, adding that the immediate priority was clearing the dangerous area because of the continued slide-offs.
NSP said the only vehicle able to drive away from the scene was a blue car that passed through, while all other vehicles involved had to be towed.
Troopers are again urging drivers to slow down, warning that even light snow can create slick and dangerous driving conditions.
